eThos. Dork of the Week

Dork of the Week | eThos: This week's dork is not only a kind individual, but also a master of expression - no matter what the medium. You might see it in his humor, or through his works. Nothing that eThos does lacks expression. Originally hailing from Oklahoma and currently living in between Brooklyn and Chicago, eThos grew up on the Osage Reservation. He draws much of his influence from the haunting images of old Indian graffiti which dominated the area. And now, much of that influence is reflected in the primordial nature of his work which depicts the struggle between nature and man.
Check out our homeboy, eThos - Dork of the Week. Pictures and questions are below. And, if you want to see him in person, he'll be curating the Right Place Wrong Time Event at the Transport Gallery, starting October 15 [Details]

DM: What's your passion?
My passion? My passion is in saying this, the best way to live is by not knowing what will happen to you at the end of the day, when the sun goes down and the seeds are done being planted, the fruit that florishes and the supper that is to be cooked.
DM: What keeps you motivated to create?
The sound of a guitar being plucked at 12:12 am on a windy night in Madrid. A conversation in Rome being translated into sign language by a man and his seeing eye dog. Empty Tokyo streets at 3am with a can of paint. Motorcycle drives from Canada to Mexico on US-101. An empty studio, ethnobotanicals / the unfolding inner alchemy within Folklore and Mysticism, a touch of a woman, oh and constantly traveling while always arriving which brings me to the process of it all.
DM: Who are some of your inspirations?
Chris Miller ala concrete hussle, Tom Torluemke with the watercolours brilliance, Futura and his seamless vitality, Picasso, Muhamad Ali, Hendrix, and Black Elk’s wisdom.
DM: Favorite Song?
I don't do favorites well, I feel like I should be making one of those origami puzzles where you either get the choice of living in a mansion or a shack. Ok let's say this, something in the middle of Miles Davis "In A Silent Way, It's About That Time", Yo-Yo Ma's Air "On the G String", and whatever Scott Herren produces with his gold teefa's.
DM: Favorite Movie?
Baraka by Fricke at the moment, but let's say I wouldn't turn down a collaboration with either David LaChappelle or Martin Scorsese.
One thing that you can't live without?
Travel, definitely travel. Oh and my kidneys, I can use those for all the brews I consume after the day is threw.
peace. taj

eThos rocks the casba. his art is comical and excruciatingly painful. catches you off guard like hitting your funny-bone. or like laughing when you stub your toe in front of someone. he brings that shit to the surface. his current work is extra raw, like an organ donation. messy but full of blood and guts. he represents where we at in general. we have always been yin and yang. he expresses this as athesism and supreme reverence for entities beyond the 3D scope. backwardness and fortune....meloncholy and mantra of joy. make sure you check this planet for the orbital pattern is in prime view.

i dreamt about ethos last light. i dreamt he was on a street corner rolling in vomit with some other fellows in rags and open sores, they were starving, tearing at scraps of raw abandoned market meat. i was disgusted and pretended not to see him. actually it was the night before last.
