Reviews. When The Sea Rises

Reviews. When The Sea Rises: It's always good to be in tune with the seasons. In the summmer, have a barbeque. When spring hits, go fly a kite. It's winter and the holidays are finally over--catch a film. Navani checked out When The Sea Rises.
When The Sea Rises | Navani Otero: When The Sea Rises is the brainchild of Yolande Moreau (Amelie) and cinematographer Gilles Porte. The North of France and Belgium serve as the backdrop for this romantic comedy. The film explores the idea of emptiness and the human desire to be loved.
When The Sea Rises is a sometimes funny look at the life of a traveling actress as she is on the road performing a one woman show. As Irene (Yolande Moreau) travels she experiences many fun adventures, including an unlikely romance with Dries (Wim Willaert). Dries pops into her life as her knight in shining armor when he stops on the side of the road to start her car. The two are inseperable, despite the fact that Irene has a husband and child at home waiting for her.
What I found most interesting and relatable about the film was how it delved into the complexity of relationships. It shows that nothing is clear cut when it comes to our emotions and need for companionship. When The Sea Rises is an honest and intimate portrayal of life and love on the road. The movie opens next Friday, January 13 at Lincoln Plaza Cinemas and Cinema Village.
