People. Myna

People. Myna: Art has no agenda. It simply is. If art does anything it proves that a collective consciousness does exist. But I think Myna can do a better job explaining the importance of art being objective:
It would be foolish to say that who I am is not in some way embroidered into my work but for the most part I try to keep who I am separate from what I do. Mainly because I'm under the impression that most people like to know an artist's background to justify the authenticity of the work. This, to me, is a ridiculous and unspoken cliche. As some artists (not all) have reacted to this external paradigm by making their art narrative to satisfy the market. I don't know when it occurred, but the public's need to connect to the art through the psychology of the artist is unfortunately undeniable. The idea of genius and high valued art has been attributed to identity. This is why all artists are expected to provide biographies. Forcing the artist to not only explain who they are, but preferrably relate any hardships to their work. Hence the phrase "tortured artist". In all reality, most artists are not tortured. How many people do you know who are completely miserable doing what they love to do?
