People News. The Futbol Greats! What a World Cup! We can't believe the French pulled out a victory against Brazil. Personally I'm a big fan of France - they've got all my players, Henry, Zidane, Viera, etc. But WOW, they actually beat the mighty giants of Brazil. Truthfully, if Brazil played Robinho from the beginning it probably would have been a different outcome. I guess that's water under the bridge now.
Last Sunday, the NY Times wrote about futbol's global presence and it's lack there of in the United States. Why can't the world's greatest sport penetrate the fandom of the US. As reported, "WITH the 2006 World Cup building toward its climax, soccer has reasserted its claim as the most popular sport on the planet. But in most of America, interest in the game remains — how to put it? — nil. We weren't always so indifferent. Thirty years ago, when pro soccer was first trying to make inroads into the United States, many Americans held strong views about the global pastime."
