Art & Design. Matt Weber & Zoo York

Art & Design. Matt Weber & Zoo York: Zoo York continues to blend artistic integrity with their latest projects. This year’s Pro Series invited guest photographer Matt Weber to take Zoo York on a ride through the grit and grime of the New York streets as seen through his eyes. Matt Weber has been documenting the fragmented and seedier sides of New York streets for decades now with his unrehearsed black and white photos.
Matt Weber was born in NYC in 1958 and went to Music & Art High School in Harlem. In 1974 Matt dropped out to pursue "art" on New York's subways. During the early ‘70s, he was a member of the Soul Artists of Zoo York. His few years of "vandalism" on these subways has been his calling card, but now with his 20 years of photography and his new book "The Urban Prisoner" things are changing. "The Urban Prisoner" is a catalogue of photographs taken by Matt during the 12 years he spent driving a NYC taxicab. In his words, "I have always reacted to motion and emotion while shooting on the streets. Fights or skirmishes or both, and as long as I can photograph one without becoming part of the brawl, then I'm happy." Check out the new boards below.
