Artist. Plastic Little

Artist. Plastic Little: What does postmodern hip-hop music sound like? I guess it would have to be a critique of or reaction to hip-hop's limitations. One of the critiques of hip-hop music is that the artists take themselves very seriously. It's no secret that the average artist believes his entire career is kind of a big deal.

Plastic Little don't mind if you laugh at them. The audacious Philly party rappers' new LP, She's Mature is a bold satire that takes hip-hop's ethos to task and it's the funniest album since Redman's Muddy Waters. They have a Wonder Showzen-like approach to music, no one is safe and nothing is sacred.

Plastic Little aren't just taking on hip-hop, they take a couple of shots at hipsterdom. I mean, you could say the entire album is nothing more than hipster onanism. On 4$ Love Song, an especially punchy ditty, they rap: "My shorty's so crunk. We got matching dunks and we rock them on the fourth of the month." The project was produced by Micheal 'Squid' Stern, with guest production by MF DOOM producer King Honey and Diplo. Guest vocals from Ghostface Killah and Amanda Blank. She's Mature drops September 15, on ToneArm Records, in association with aNYthing.
