Film. People Like Us

Film. People Like Us: Class. It's the enormous fire-breathing dragon in the room, sipping a milkshake, that no one wants to talk about. America purports to be a meritocracy. So class shouldn't matter, right? If you work hard, you will be rich. That would be nice but for a society to be truly meritocratic, there has to be equality in opportunity. The richest 20% of American households have 15 times as much income as the bottom 20%. If the estate tax is repealed, the richest 20% will be able to pass on the whole of their estate to their heirs, tax free. Obviously, class matters in the United States, maybe more than it ever has.

People Like Us examines American life through the prism of the country's unique class structure. The documentary travels across the country presenting stories that will resonate regardless of where you see yourself on the social spectrum. People Like Us is filled with intersting conversations and colorful anecdotes that help make the connections between daily life and the larger issues of class in America.
