Film. The Science of Sleep

Film. The Science of Sleep: "Dreams, according to Freud, are the royal road to the unconscious. That remains true. But unfortunately it is a road that is easily lost if there is not full knowledge of all the territory around it. For anyone to try his skill at interpreting dreams without some understanding of the factors within himself at the time is a haphazard, hit-or-miss play. Interpretation may then degenerate into intellectual guesswork, even if the dream itself is seemingly transparent." - Dr. Karen Horney
The Science of Sleep is a film about a man who falls in love with his neighbor. He continually ruins his chances with his love interest because he can't seperate his dream life from his waking life. Gondry's wildly imaginative visuals guide us through the maze of emotions, doubts, and insecurities experienced by a man in love, only to leave us stranded in the end. It's a wonderfully charming work of art.
