Review. DJ Jazzy Jeff's Hip Hop Forever III

Review. DJ Jazzy Jeff's Hip Hop Forever III: "And you can't beat that with a bat!" DJ Jazzy Jeff's latest release from BBE, Hip Hop Forever III, is a solid mixtape of mid to late 90's rap music. Granted there's some music included that's pre 95 and post 2000, but all in all the tempo, vibe and feel strike the sweet spot of the decade. Anyone could compile the best songs of this era and come away with a half decent album. But, that's not Jeff. He takes it to the next level. It's not about shout-outs, exclusives or blatant self promotion - he's about creating a fabric of sound that evolves into a statement.
At Dork we try to refrain from absolutes. However, with measured judgement we can honestly say Jazzy Jeff is the greatest dj ever. He's won that crown, and continues to find ways to stay relevant to the culture. We'd love to see his influence break into the mainstream again. It's needed. Hip Hop Forever III includes music from Biz Markie, Redman, Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest, Jay Dee, Black Sheep, Mobb Deep and the Pharcyde. [Photo Credit *]
