Film. Killer Of Sheep

Film. Killer of Sheep: After 30 years, a killer has been released. Charles Burnett's film, Killer Of Sheep takes place in the Los Angeles ghetto of Watts during the mid-1970s. The film's protagonist, Stan, faces serious financial problems and begins to find solace in the simple things in life.
Completed in 1977, the film was never given wide release due to licensing issues surrounding its soundtrack. However, the film was screened a few times and eventually gained a bit of a cult following culminating in the National Society of Film Critics naming it as one of the 100 most essential films. 30 years after its completion, the movie is hitting independent theaters across the country beginning March 30th at the IFC Center in New York City and will be released on DVD later this year.
