DM: Were your parents supportive of that move?
LB: My mother was very supportive because she understood that
I had a plan. She was the same type of person. I mean, she moved
to a whole other country, from Brazil to the U.S. all by herself,
not knowing a soul. My father was okay with it because my mother
said it was okay.
DM: The independent label you’re signed to (Nu Paradigm)
is run by your husband, Nkosi Gray, right?
LB: We run it together.
DM: How did you guys meet?
LB: Ummm.. We met a while ago. A long time ago. We met at his
recording studio. We just started talking about music and we
clicked… Then we found that we agreed about how labels
should be run, marketing and promotions and all that and we
just did it.
DM: How does that work? He did production on the album also
right?
LB: We work really well together. You know, we have our moments,
like everybody but it’s really healthy, even when we disagree.
DM: Who else worked with you on the album?
LB: Eric Rico, this brother in LA… Chris Udell, he’s
from New York. SaRa…
DM: Wow, those cats are dope… I hope you got the beats
before the prices went up.
LB: Well my husband knows them from way back. I met them through
him. They come from the same place so when they start talking
crazy prices he can fall back on the, "Come on now, let’s
be real'
