Disc Two (Jazz in the Color Purple), finds Center in deep concentration, weaving jazz rarities that provided inspiration for the soundtracks from which the Golden Era Hip Hop drew. However, this mix is not a sample-based guessing game; it is simply harmonious soul vibes from start to finish. This eclectic mix will undoubtedly have you feelin’ what he’s feelin’ and wanting more.

“One of these things are doing its own thing…” and they’re doing just fine. That is what I think about when I think of the indie record label Ropeadope. Andy Blackman Hurwitz handles the music and David “Words” Wurtzel handles the clothing line. Together they are doing a heck of a job blending good music, great style, culture, and positive philosophy about life.

As a music connoisseur and dj what is enticing about Ropeadope is that the music they put out cannot be categorized by one genre. This is evident, as they have released project from Jazzanova, King Britt, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Charlie Hunter, Antibalas, Dj Logic, Sex Mob, Mike Gordon, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Philadelphia and Detroit Experiment and several others. Since I don’t work for the label I can say what goes on at the famous “Ropeadope fake offices” (read the news on their site for the inside joke) but it seems like the artist really have the freedom to experiment with their creativity without the fear of be shelved which might be the case if they were with someone else.

Some of their upcoming releases include The Campbell Brothers – Can You Feel It?, King Britt presents – Sister Gertrude Morgan, DJ Logic – Who am I?, Jneiro Jarel – Three Piece Puzzle, Christian McBride – Three Sides Live, The Tonic Sessions and Sex Mob – Sex Mob by the Bay. In the studio, Ropeadope are also working on new albums for 2006 by Antibalas, Mike Gordon, Charlie Hunter, John Medeski (solo record), Kid Koala’s Bullfrog, and the Experiment Series – Memphis Experiment; Chicago Experiment & the Paris Experiment.
