The Turntable Documentarian

When you have the opportunity to give a friend some shine, you do it - especially when they're well deserving. John Carluccio is the friend I speak of... John and I have been friends and co-workers for about four years, and the thing I respect most about John is his ability to create new and exciting inventions. From Battlesounds to Hop-fu you've got to give it to the man - his work is inspiring.

DM: John, tell me about your latest projects.

JC: I recently completed a DVD for DJ Rob Swift. It's a "video scoring" for his album WAR GAMES, which contains all these polictal sound bites. So, I created a visual representation of all the sound with archives I dug up and the stuff Rob had collected. I'm still traveling a bit with Hop-Fu producing those shows, and The TTM stuff (a notation method for turntables) is starting to get further developed too, that’s why I'm in Utah.

DM:
What's your next venture?

JC: Well, the next thing is an extension of the TTM. I've been in meetings with a software company out in Salt Lake City that is developing software that will allow users to draw and play the transcriptions on your computer. It's looking really good and is just the start of a bunch of other innovations.

DM:
Explain your thought process behind these cutting edge
projects?

JC: Cutting edge? Thanks. I just try to keep my eyes open. I look and I look again, and I guess when something’s hits me (later usually), I just start drawing or writing and hopefully it comes back to me, if it continues to haunt me.
