KC: I was tired of living in my $1000 bedroom in Oakland. Meanwhile I saw all my friends moving to LA or New York and thought I should be somewhere. I just moved. I didn’t know anyone out here (Philly). And the funny thing is, I almost moved back. But then I met – well I just started meeting people - lots of different interesting people.

DM: Why were you thinking about moving back?

KC: Well, I moved here in the winter and no one in Philly goes out during the winter. So I was like this place sucks. But everyone said just stay – wait - just stay till summer. You’ll see. Then I started meeting all the art kids. All the art kids at [Space] 1026.

DM: That’s true. The city does get quiet during the winter. But, once you get accustomed to it, it’s a great city. How long did it take you to get settled and comfortable?

KC: It took me a year to get settled. I built a studio in my foyer, and then my roommate moved out and [my boyfriend] moved in about a year ago. So, we have this adult like apartment with a dining room and now we share a studio in the extra room. He has his area and I have my area.

DM: I love seeing workspaces and how people organize them. Vapors had a great article on people’s offices a few months back.

KC: Me too! I love seeing people’s work spaces. I saw that issue. Futura’s joint was cool… camo and porno. I was thinking I want this studio.

DM: hahaha! I noticed you have several mediums for your art? What’s your favorite?

KC: It depends. There are so many factors. For instance, I always think about things like, what’s my overhead? What space, time and money I have? Sadly all of these things factor into the kind of art I do. I paint really small because I had a small apartment and I kept moving.
