KC: It was cheaper to paint small. But, I’m really a drawer. Not a painter. I don’t think I paint that well, so many of my works and my style adapt to paintings from drawing. Over the years I’ve gotten better at bringing out my drawings in the painting. I also painted really small because framing is so expensive. You can get these pre-beveled plaques for school awards, I started buying them and painting on them. The bigger sizes were really expensive. So I had to stop doing it. Now, I go to hardware stores and buy huge sheets of pine. So it all depends – there are so many factors. Overall, it doesn’t matter. I just like to paint my friends and girls, and girls in bikini’s and cute kids and cake and octopuses and bunnies.

DM: What’s your process for creating? What inspires you? Music? Movies?

KC: I can’t say that music inspires me to create my art. It does help the process though. So, I listen to music, but it’s whatever Tim wants to play because his speakers are bigger than mine. The funny thing is now with airtunes, my music will show up on his computer so I go over there and get my music played.

DM: So do you find it easy to stay inspired and keep creating?

KC: Art is so hard. You have to give it so much. I think I struggle with that everyday. Why am I doing it? I think affirmation from other people is helpful. But then again, I don't have a choice at this point. It’s too late. I’ve already decided that I have to do this for the rest of my life. Like, I have a lot of stupid jobs. This is one of the better ones. But I don’t really make a lot of money, and part of that is to make me work harder at home so one day I won’t need these stupid jobs and I'll be able to somehow make art all encompassing. The picture of the little girl that you like – I have a print of her in my office with a bubble that says, “Get off your ass you lazy ho or keep your day job!” Every hour that you want to go out drinking with your friends or spend money on that shirt. I look at that picture and think I have to make that choice for art.
