Language: To paraphrase that one famous Supreme Court Justice who was asked to define pornography, you know it when you hear it.

DM: I like watching reruns of What's Happening whenever I have writer's block - it makes me laugh. Do you have any quirky rituals that you employ when searching for inspiration?

Language: Maybe if you can get away with describing wasting time on the Interweb as a “quirky ritual”! When I’m stuck, I usually end up digging through my records - I’m at the point where I have so many records that I tend to forget what I already own, which means that I’m constantly “discovering” stuff I already have. So guess just listening to records. It’s also good to get out and hear music, whether it’s other DJs or bands. It’s good to stop thinking about yourself and what you’re doing sometimes. Speaking of What’s Happening, how amazing is the two-part episode featuring the Doobie Brothers playing at the kids’ high school? In the gymnasium? With smoke machines?! And Rerun intimidated by bootleggers into recording the show with a mic stuck under his jacket, only to discover later that the music was obscured by the noise he made snacking on popcorn and hotdogs during the concert? I want that on DVD pronto.

DM: Have you ever seen the episode of Good Times where JJ got shot by a gang member? James Evans was going to kick that dude's ass! They don't make TV like that anymore.

Language: Damn skippy!

DM: So far what has been your greatest experience deejaying?

Language: Man, that’s a tough call – I’ve really been blessed with so many great experiences playing records. There’s a few great memories that’s stick out, though. Playing at PS1 with Nicky Siano, one of the true legends of NYC disco, on a gorgeous NYC summer day.
